Bill Barnes read all or most of the Sherlock Holmes stories in his youth but didn't develop the craving for Sherlockism until his young and restless thirties when in Switzerland he drove past a signpost to Reichenbach, and it all came to him in a flash. Even after a fruitless couple of hours when it became apparent that the village of Reichenbach is nowhere near the falls of the same name he still had the bug. After returning home to Australia it was another few years before he discovered a local Sherlockian society but for the first 18 months after joining he was unable to attend any meetings due to travel with his job. He is interested in the cult following that Holmes enjoys and thinks that being a Sherlockian is one of the greatest global levellers around, an instant creator of goodwill between strangers. He has been the 'Captain' (president) of The Sydney Passengers since 1996. He edited and published 'The Hounds' Collection', a yearly anthology from The Hounds of the Internet from 1996-2005. He co-edited 'Australia and Sherlock Holmes', the third volume (2008) in The Baker Street Irregulars International Series. Invested into The Baker Street Irregulars in 2009 as The Gloria Scott.
